Do you run your business out of your home and/or studio?

You should let your insurance company know ASAP if you do.

Getting the right insurance product for your craft/art business can be challenging.  You often need to educate the insurer on what you do and how you do it.   Often times you will end up communicating with a broker connected to a local insurance company.

Here are a list of topics to  consider in your insurance conversation.

  • Finished product
  • Raw materials
  • Tools
  • Website
  • Pop-up markets
  • Installations
  • Geographical location of your studio
  • Travel to markets
  • Public studio access
  • Does your process require flame
  • Public liability – This insurance potentially covers you for any legal issues that may arise from the use of your product.  If you have public liability insurance for people attending your studio or shop, this will cover any issues that may arise from an incident on your property.     *** important to note ***does not include damage to contents of a studio. Very Very important to discuss what this means with your insurer.
  • Content Insurance – *** This insurance potentially covers you for theft, loss or damage.
